Lauren Richards commenced a career as a police officer in 1998 and progressed to the rank of Senior Sergeant.

Lauren is an avid distance runner and cyclist.  After recovering from a brain haemorrhage in 2013, Lauren was struck by a vehicle while cycling in 2015.  These incidents resulted in physical impairment, persistent pain, and PTSD. Lauren moved to a non-operational role within the Department of Police, Fire and Emergency Management (DPFEM) where she developed policy relating to people with disability and became a wellbeing peer and advocate for her colleagues with disability.

In 2024 Lauren transferred from Tasmania Police to the Department of Education, Children and Young People where she is a Program Manager for Emergency Planning, with a particular interest in planning for people with disability during emergency situations.  Lauren is also a Director on the Board, for Self Help Workplace, a social enterprise in Youngtown, Tasmania, committed to providing people with disability with meaningful and productive employment so they can enjoy independent and fulfilling lives.

Lauren still enjoys keeping fit and setting physical challenges to fundraise for various charities and community projects.

Lauren has lived primarily on the Northwest Coast and now resides near Launceston.
